1) Photographs with Ray from the human body
Prof. Arthur W.Goodspeed of the University of Pennsylvania Makes an Interesting Discovery While Experimenting.
Special ti The New York Times.
Philadelphia, May 17. – Prof. Arthur W.Goodspeed of the University of Pennsylvania has discovered a new ray which, emanating from the human body, is of sufficient intensity to make photographs. He discovered the ray while making experimental research with a Crookes tube. Whole using an iron tripod stand with a ring-shaped top as a support for a photographic plate, be noticed that the plate, when exposed to the X-rays, seemed to be influenced by the iron ring below. A series of experiments resulted on the conclusion that with light emanating from his hand Prof. Goodspeed was able to photograph a ring, a cent, and a piece of aluminium.
He first placed the Crookes focus tube in operation within its light-proof blackbox, which was put in such a position that the platinum plate directed the rays upward. Five pieces of lead, which is impervious to the X-ray, were then pifed on the another on top of the box, and uponthe top of the lead was placed a photographic plate inclosed in a lightproof box. Upon the top of the latter box was a cylinder of brass with a small aperture in its side. Within the cylinder and resting upon the top of the box containing the plate were placed the ring, a cent, and a piece of aluminium. The top of the cylinder was sealed with two heavy pieces of zinc.
The room was in complete darkness and Prof. Goodspeed then held his hand three inches from the aperture of the box for three minutes. The plate was taken from its box, developed, and radiographs of the objects were found upon it.

2) Human Rays. It is announced by Prof. Arthur W. Goodspeed, of the University of Pennsylvania, that he has been experimenting with rays emanating from the human body. Although photographs were made by the aid of Crookes tubes, it is asserted that the tubes were not the actual means of producing the photograph, but that they acted simply as intensifiers of the rays. Prof. Goodspeed is said to have ascertained that the rays from the human body pass with difficulty through glass and with ease through aluminium.

3)MAN GIVES OFF RAYS OF LIGHT
Human Body Reflects Energy Producing Illumination.
Novel Discovery Announced by Dr. Goodspeed of Philadelphia.
Special Dispatch to The Call.
Philadelphia, May 17. – Professor Arthur W. Goodspeed of the Randal-Morgan Laboratory of Physics at the
University of Pennsylvania has discovered from the human body, is strong enough to make a distinct photograph. Roentgen ray photographs which ordinarily require an exposure of a half hour can be taken in five minutes with the application of the new principle.
Professor Goodspeed’s discovery was communicated to the American Philosophical Society at a meeting of that body on Friday night. Photographs taken by the light from his hand accompanied the paper read by him. He accounts for the phenomena thus:
“All matter absorbs radio-active energy in waves of varying lengths and gives off this same energy in waves of a changed and definite length. The energy that has been thus transformed is characteristic of the matter that gives it forth. The human body gives out the rays or waves of this energy with comparative freedom and force.
“It is to be presumed that the character of human rays varies in an infinitesimal degree with the person , and that each man, woman and child gives forth not merely characteristic human light, but light that is absolutely unique and identifying.
“These rays of the human body are not sufficient to be appreciated by the human eye. It may be that they are seen by the eyes of certain of the smaller animals. For instance, a mouse probably sees a man himself”.
While a Crooke’s tube was used by Professor Goodspeed in his experiments, the X-Rays flowing from the tube were not permitted to flow toward the photographic plates. The unusual wave disturbance was absorbed by Professor Goodspeed’s own body, and there transformed into rays by which photographs were made.

The investigation of the subject implied by the title of this article was suggested by the unexpected presence on some radiographic records of peculiar markings outlining certain bodies below the plate, in addition to the expected shadows of the objects above the plate — i.e., between the sensitive film and the vacuum tube.
While using an iron tripod stand with a ring-shaped top as a support for a radiographic plate, it was noticed that the plate when exposed to X-rays seemed to be influenced locally by the presence of the iron ring below. For after exposing a circular piece of bronze placed on the upper side of the plate which had rested on the stand during exposure, the development showed that just above the metal of the stand the plate was appreciably less affected through the bronze than under that portion of the latter which had not been over the metal support. This startling observation suggested at once more careful investigation, especially since on first thought it would seem that if the metal below the plate could have any effect, the result should be quite the contrary to what was observed—i.e., if the metal below sends off "emanations" of some sort which might produce an effect on the sensitive film, the latter would be expected to show an increased density where influenced both by the rays from above and by the emanations from beneath.
Apparent anomalies have on several occasions been noticed on radiographic plates, some similar to that just mentioned, but these have never been definite enough to invite special investigation.
A large number of experiments were made at once in rapid succession with strips and plates of various substances both below and above the sensitive film, with results always the same in character though differing in intensity of effect in different experiments and with different materials. As examples of the character of some of the tests, sheets of paraffin, mica, and of aluminum were successively placed between the under metals and the film, with the result that the effect in every case was similar, only a little less intence..."
