По умолчанию Re: В рамках конференции

This is what I actually wrote to Nikolai A.:

I'd like to now answer the question that was on the forum about
my helping paintings by Roerich to go to M.Ts.R.

Because the gulf between the Director of the Moscow Roerich Museum
and me is a personal one, I have tried over these years to not permit
that difficulty to affect my attitude to the museum itself. There have been,
and probably still are, many Roerich paintings in private collections in
America. When the terrible events of 1936-7 caused the loss of the old
museum, there were then 1006 paintings in its collection. We have only
about two hundred, and the rest, for the most part, went into private
collections. Whenever owners of paintings by Roerich want to sell them,
they often ask me to help them find buyers. And I usually give them
the name of Mr. Bulochnik, who has eagerly bought all that was
available. Mr. Bulochnik's name is rarely mentioned, but he is the main
support of M.Ts.R's activities, and he is the one who bought
most of the paintings that came to M.Ts.R. in recent years, and then
gave them to the Museum.

Why do I do this? Because I know that the Moscow museum has the space
to accept and exhibit the paintings, and that they will then be seen by
thousands of people. That is much better than seeing them go into other
private collections. Paintings live best when they are seen and appreciated
by many people. You might read Roerich's article, "The Freedom of Things",
to understand. So even though I had nothing to do with the painting that is
mentioned in the forum message (actually, I was wrong here -- the painting was part of a group that was sold through me by the children of Roger Bolling to Mr. Bulochnik), I felt it would be better to shed some
light on the entire matter.

If you have read Ms. Knizhnik's slanderous article about me, "An American
Tragedy", in which she decides that Elena Ivanovna wanted all of Roerich's paintings to go to Moscow and knew that it would happen, you may then also decide that I have been an instrument in making this happen. Stranger things have happened!
