В "Письмах Махатм", после неудачной попытки М объяснить Синнету "круги", КХ сказал, что М плохо знаком с теософской терминологией, отсюда и неточности. Но М прекрасно цитировал и Библию, и Кристину Розетти, и даже высказывался при помощи итальянских музыкальных терминов. А вот круги объяснить...
Ни в одном из писем, вошедших в ПМ, М не использовал термин "свабхават". Зато он использовал латынь, и французкий. И их там больше, чем санскрита.
У сэра Ричарда был один пунктик - the highest of goals, the development of Humanity. Поскольку сдвиг теософии в эту сторону произошел не сразу, мне приятнее думать, что на раннем этапе он не имел отношения к теософии. Хотя если подумать, то М и после не проявлял особого интереса ни к свабхавату, ни к кругам.
Тем не менее, ЕПБ знала о его поездке в Индию. И вообще, у него на первую половину 1875 нет "алиби". Хотя лично я думаю, что он не ездил в Америку. Тем не менее, описание похожих на него и Чаттопадхьяя людей есть у Олькотта - это Оотон Лиатто (около 25 лет, похож на индуса; похож на "Кришнаварму" Блаватской) и его спутник (dark skinned gentleman of about fifty with a bushy gray beard and eye brows). Олькотт других адептов не видел (ЕПБ сказала, что его видели трое "братьев", на что он заметил, что видел двоих).
Questioned as to which lodge she belonged to, she told him: "it is certainly not to the Rosicrucians as I said to every one in the Article to Hiram. It is a secret Lodge in the East; perhaps they are the Brotherhood Mejnour speaks about in Zanoni." One turns to Lytton's novel and finds that Mejnour's brotherhood, which is anterior to the Rosicrucians, comprises only two members: himself and Zanoni. И М, и КХ писали своим корреспондентам "салам". Это арабизм из урду. Индуисты и буддисты не говорят "салам". Зато его любил вставлять в свои письма сэр Ричард:
- My lowly salaams to Lady Houghton ev yrs sincly Abdullah
- With profound salaams to my Lady, I am ev. yrs. affly
Прекрасно зная, что "салам" не индуистская "фишка":
- Salaam (or rather namaskára) to Mr. Bendall and best wishes to you both.
Почему это пропустили Синнет и Хьюм, жившие в Индии... я не знаю.

Создается впечатление, что КХ два раза не мог свое имя написать одинаково: Koothoomi, Koot' Hoomi, Koot-hoomi, Koot Hoomi, Khoot Hoomi, Koot'humi, Koothumi (последние четыре варианта написаны М.). Но английские имена и названия не пострадали.

- I must beg the reader to note, that a word often has several different spellings, and my husband used to give them a turn all round.
- In conclusion, a word with the critic about his "particular mode of spelling Indian proper names." ... Besides the vulgar one, there are two systems for Romanizing the Oriental alphabet: that of Sir W. When composing for the Orientalist, that is or is about to be, I adopt the common modification of Sir W. Jones's system as used by the Indian lexicographers, and indite the name Sindh or Sindhu.
