There is one other element to this that I wish a Russian lawyer would verify for us all. My understanding of Russian copyright law tells me that fifty years after an author's death, everything he created moves into the public domain. If that is true, and if we accept that Nicholas Roerich "created" the Chintamani symbol as it exists in our tradition, then that symbol also moved into the public domain in 1997, and from then on could not be owned or controlled by anyone. Could anyone verify that?
